Lemmus trimucronatus
15 June
Bearow, Alaska - estimate density at about
20-30/acre on the ridge along Elron hogon.
Animals quite noisy. Caught 7 animals
from one position and jumped 5 from an area
of 10 ft square.
16 June
On the beach ridge in this area when
Mullin & I collected them on June 12 the
beasts were a little more conspicuous than last
Tuesday; we got 11 animals from an area about
100 x 40 feet and got 3 without moving the
weasel (Mullin is "clonulig"), and without
beginning to hurt the population; missed 4 to 5.
All were singles and saws at least twice as
many others. They are digging mainly in the tundra
along the edge of the quells & seem less inclined to
flight than on the 12th. Density was higher,
77 June
Dondon #1 of ridges seen along clearings on the
south part of the Beach Ridge & Elron hogon.
Some grubbing seen here, and they are
fairly noisy under the ice.
17 June
In the area between S. Salt hogon & Family hogon
saw only 2 Lemmings, sawt about 25 in an
equal sized area (120 acres) to the south of this;
18 June
Almost no signs thus in the Barrel areas (but
they are common on the Beach Ridge, the few
animals we have taken being unnoticeable got
30/3s and handle 2 about 10/4s from an area
about 1 acre and didn't to tell pop.
