P.D.Benedict's 1965 Calcaium Laponices 11 June Barrow, Alaska remained in a more upright position; saw both fiddler on the snow one with the wing towards the opponent open. Birds very quiet in the afternoon 12 June Other than there being some song, little feeding, activity seen; my values seemed more balanced today. 13 June little change from yesterday. 14 June Saw several birds hop instead of the usual walking. They were quieter than in the past few days (due to wind?) and no signs of nesting as yet. 15 June Very little song + other activity considering # of birds seen. 16 June a little song flight near the bar area. Only one or two birds, lugging up Kudua, on the Kach ridge in the morning. Birds not noisy at all in the afternoon. A female feeding out in a sweet (6 sq') of exposed grass was flushed by a lemming which ran under the longspur. 18 June Some what more song but little change in activities from previous dates. 19 June Saw no unusual display yet the species were quite noisy. An egg found out on the ground was apparently this species, as today I kicked a f off a freshly lined but empty nest. On June 17 this grass cup had been completed; this cup was better developed and deeper, 4-6 small white (?) (Sow) feathers in the cup, on which the & were sitting. The cup was placed back
