Zonotrichia leucophrys 5 June Meade River Coal Mine, 157°25' W, 70°24' N, Alaska To my surprise they have begun to sing. One near the river by the coal mine began singing, about midnight and continued off and on until at least 5 A.M., and another singing on the far side about 1 mile south. A bird came through camp and sang from the wires. At least one in the village. 6 June. One or two in village. One singing a little in the A.M. ? Will they breed here? 10 June One singing about 1 mi S of camp on far side of the Meade River. 11 June One singing and feeding in willows along the edge of the Meade River from the census plot to South Creek area. Say. 12 June One singing near the coal mine c. 11 A.M. and a ? seen there in the evening. A ? sparrow with Pterinigus feathers in its back was seen here. 13 June One singing on the far side of the Meade about 2 mi N of camp and two near the 1 stake of Phil's transect. One in camp. 14 June One near Phil's transect, singing from the top of the stakes 16 June One near Phil's transect. Singing from the far tide of the Meade about 1½ miles from here. 17 June Singing from the far side of the Meade. Observed some and scatterers along the Meade. 4+ ?s here.
