Zonotrichia leucophrys 30 May Meade River Coal Mine, 157°25'W, 70°29'N, Alaska Two feeding with longspurs in grassy regions along the creek N. of camp by the village. Both fairly shy, but covering much territory in their activities. 31 May At least two in camp (one here last night) and along the creek and one in the "canna plot" area. No song. They feed most along the edge of grassy areas where the ground is bare, and are more active than the average longspur. They appear much slimmer in flight. Two together include AF Wannigan about 9 P.M. 1 June Still at least one near camp. Thought I heard song once. SAVANNAH SPARROW 2 June There are more here than I though. Two or three singing on the far side of the Meade River of camp and 2-3 around camp, 3-4 in the flats N. of the village along the river, 1-2 in the polygonal area W. of the village, and 2-3 in stapolized dune-bluff area 2-3 miles N. of camp. I suspect not are paired and no flocks are evident. 2 June There were two+ birds along the creek, one in the flats N. of the village, and one+ on the bluff 2 mi. N. of camp this A.M. Still no song. Still one near the "canna plot." There are a lot around! 3 June One between camp area the AF Wannigan about 1 P.M. 4 June Two in the village, both with gray lores and unjoined eye stripes.
