P. DeBenedictis 1965 Passerella illiacce. 9 June Barrow, Alaska - found one on a gravel pit with turnstones feeding on the ground. It was bright, very gray head with a rufous-reddish back bright tail and bright rufous streakings ventrally - according to Dr. Pitell this is the "local" race zabovices. 10 June still present, saw about 2PH in the same area, scratching in the exposed grassy area near snow drift. 11 June still present in same area. 13 June a Foxsparrow in the same area was of the same general pattern but in a much duller plumage, the streaking quite dark and the dorsal reddish; looked unlike the bird previously seen but could have been the same bird much dirtied up. 15 June still present; not checked yesterday.
