Passerellus sandwichensis
16 June
Meadle River Coal Mine, 157025'W, 70024'N, Alaska
Wide spread in quarry areas, the's singing. Mostly
along L. Agassiz.
17 June
Several's in the cottage flats. Not singing on the
far side of the river. Bad? weather?
21 June
One singing on the census plot for the first time.
Listably from a pair by the coal mine.
23 June
Two males singing from the west side of lake
Agassiz in quarry-willow areas.
25 June
Found a partly domed one nest - [illegible] - under a
tuft at tall grass containing 5 pale blue, heavily
spotted eggs. The nest was well lined. I was never
able to see the bird flushed off the nest, but a pair
of Savannah sparrows were very excited about my presence
near the nest.
26 June
Found a 5-egg nest near the coal mine. The
nest was a simple cup, feather-lined, nearly
covered over by tall Elymus. The 4 flushed at 3 feet
and was very hard to see. She didn't come
back until some time later.
28 June
All but one egg in the nest by the coal mine has
hatched. Parent's shipping, possibly at the area.
3 July
Only two young in the nest by the Coal Mine now.
1 July
Again, carrying food, about 3/5 of the way
down the cottage flats. Apparently nesting at an
inland side of the willows, not good about keeping
the nest hidden.
6 July
Still two large young in the nest by the coal mine. [illegible]
