P.d Benedetti 11466 Vema Sabini 10 June Meade River Coal Mine, 15°02'N, 78°29'W, Alaska A few in flight in the South Ridge area, often well inland of the river. 4 on a lake with some water on top of the ice (not display saw). Very vocal as they go by. ? Not around here. 12 June Two or 3 on Lake Agassiz, swimming, and some seen flying over land. Not as noisy as usual. 16 June Now definitely sitting on eggs on the largest island of lake Agassiz. Our flew up to attack a parent Taeag going over, then directly back to the nest. Only dunlin and Arctic Tern on the island otherwise. 17 June Still sitting at least 4's nesting, little display saw though not much watched for. 21 June Only occasionally seen on the census plot area, always flying from the lake Agassiz basin to the river E. or vice-versa and never landing. 23 June Still sitting on the island on the SW part of lake Agassiz. 27 June An ?incipient colony of 3 pairs forming in one of the large lakes in the far opposite camp. The birds were seen catching insects on the ice and one hawked an insect from the air. One landed on a sparsely sphagnum island and in a slight upright posture scolded "tsch tsch tsch..." for several minutes, then flew off. None sitting. Associated with Arctic Terns as usual. 29 June Only noted once away from lake Agassiz, and only briefly.
