We only found about 10 trees, the tallest of which was 50' or so. From across the valley on the previous day, we were able to see more, but they are scattered on the slope and do not form a continuous grove. No special birds were seen in the white firs. From there we climbed to the top of New York Peak (7500'). The white firs grow almost up to the crest of the ridge and if one is overlooking from the proper place, cannot miss them. Keystone canyon has more oaks than any of the other canyons in the New Yorks. Some Quercus chrysolepis are on slopes as high as 7000'. From Keystone drove to Nipton. Time: 0745-1800; round trip Keystone - NY Peak 0845- 1540. Observers: Andy Sanders.
