Remsen, J.V. 1975 Broad-winged Hawk Buteo platypterus Feb. 15 Monterey area, Monterey Co., Calif.: 1 imm. near Monterey Peninsula College, where it has been seen regularly since late December, sitting on lamppost at the edge of a very busy intersection (just off Hwy. 101. Only second or third winter record for Calif. Oct. 11 Point Reyes, Marin Co., Calif.: 1 sub.-ad. (clear tail bands but not dark acc. to Binford enough underneath for adult) soaring above Schooner Bay and moving north (south wind). Basic Red-tail shape but striking black and white bands on tail.
