May 3 Two Buttes Dam, Prowers Co., Colo.
Area: riparian cottonwood-willows below the dam - walked about 3/4 mile upstream. Several artificial ponds with some cattail growth. Cottonwoods not dense or continuous. Little undergrowth along stream but dense chaparral-like thickets on the sides of the canyon which border the bottom. Scattered juniper on open areas above canyon. The whole area had a very "south western" aspect, yet no Brown Towhees, Rufous-crowned Sparrows, Roadrunners, etc. Cottonwoods flowering.
