McCown's Longspur
Rhynchophanes mccownii
Sep. 6 Briggsdale, Weld Co., Colo: 50 (NBP) in Murphy's pasture, in
small flocks, Call note is a dry "chi-chi-chi". Much more white
in the tail than Chestnut-collared - very obvious
Nov. 23 San Diego area, San Diego Co., Calif: 2 (NBP ?, ?) in plowed dirt
fields at e. end of Sunset Av. in Tijuana R. valley. Grayer than
Chestnut-collared, much whiter in tail, more strongly marked face, silvery
underwings, larger bill than ornatus, lower mandible pale (apparently
both dark horn in ornatus).
