Jan.2 Rocky Ford area, Crowley-Otero Cos, Colo: 1 at Rocky Ford Wildlife
Area in Arkansas Valley e.of Rocky Ford. Black Phoebe-like call, un-
grayish
streelied underparts, reddish bend of wing, [illegible] Much more common than
usual in Colorado this winter according to Jack Reddall, interesting in
that they were also more common in Calif than usual this
last fall and early winter.
Nov.1 Monterey area, Monterey Co, Calif: 1 at Carmel River near Sewage Plant -
whitish throat, unstreaked gray breast, very reddish wings, triangular face patch,
general shape like Song Sparrow, call very similar to Black Phoebels; also
gave another buzzy note like a soft Lincoln's Sparrow
Dec.6 Fairmont Park, Riverside Co, Calif: 2 in wet thickets near marsh
in riparian. First bird - striped brownish crown with pale center streak;
mouse-brown eyeline; triangular brownish cheek patch; obscurely defined
whitish throat; grayish-brown chest with very obscure streaks; paler
belly; striped back; very rusty-red wings from shoulder through primaries;
shorter tail than Song Sparrow. Second bird had a stronger white throat
and grayer chest and even redder wings.
