Remsen, J.V. 1975 Golden-crowned Sparrow Zonotrichia atricapilla Jan. 1 Waterton, Jefferson Co., Colo : 1 in ad. plumage - strong black crown stripes with gold crown - seen along the e. bank of the S. Platte R. about 1/4 mile downstream from the bridge. Along the e. bank, there are several springs which probably do not freeze, and the bird was seen on the ground around the wet areas. Did not associate with any other sparrows and spent most of its time in dense thickets. The bird had been found here 5 days earlier by Bob Reed. It seemed strange that the bird was a fine plumaged ad. instead of an imm. Only a few Colorado records
