Tree Sparrow
Spizella arborea
Dec. 21 San Diego area, San Diego Co., Calif.: I am in Bilbao Park feeding on lawn with Chipping and White-crowned Sparrows.—found here earlier in week by Jon Dunn. I had never seen this plumage before—apparently all the birds in Colorado are adults (but maybe I never looked closely?). This bird did not have a solid reddish crown, but was obscurely streaked on the crown — otherwise, it was recognizable by the black breast spot and upper buffy sides at bend of wing.
