Remsen, J.V. 1975 Prairie Warbler Dendroica discolor Nov. 2 Monterey area, Monterey Co., Calif: 1 found by Laurie Binford 100 yds. downstream from Hwy 1 bridge over Carmel River on south bank. Watched off and on for 10 minutes from about 75' as it foraged in broad-leaved trees about 40' tall, feeding in outer foliage. Often hovered next to leaf. Occasionally wagged tail. Appeared to be a smaller warbler than average. Basically grayish-green above (back not seen well enough to see if streaked) and yellow below, with two whitish wingbars. Distinctively marked with black on face, particularly the semicircular mark below eye and another dot on sides of throat; sides and flanks spotted with black.
