Remsen, J.V. 1975 Worm-eating Warbler Helmitheros vermivorus May 3 Two Buttes Dam, Prowers Co., Colo.: I foraging in flowering cottonwoods about 1/4-mile upstream from dam. Stayed in the tree, feeding from 15-40 ft. above ground. Prominent blackish stripes through face and crown were the first things noticed about the bird — one through each eye and two through the crown. The rest of the face, throat and breast were a rich buffy-orange, much brighter than is indicated in field guides; this coloration became paler towards the belly and almost whitish on undertail coverts. The upperparts were a dull brownish-green, with no trace of any wing-bars. Bill seemed slightly disproportionately long and thin. I had not expected to see this species foraging high in a tree, but then again there was not that much undergrowth in the vicinity.
