Nov.16 Mmes Rd- Del Puerto Cyn, Alameda Co, Calif: 1 foraging on ground in heavily grazed field 40' from nearest tree with W. Bluebirds and House Finches; another seen hopping along roadside in gravel 20' from nearest tree; another seen hopping around on a small rock clump 75' from nearest tree. Hard times? Dec.4 Eastern Mohave Desert, San Bernardino Co, Calif: 5 at Mid Hills Campground; this subspecies' call is different from the coastal race's - it is more rapid - the "si-si-si-si" descending sequence is noticeably faster and less slurred.
