Remsen, J.V. 1975 Tropical Kingbird Tyrannus melancholicus Sep.27 Monterey area, Monterey Co. Calif.: 1 at Crespi Pond with Western Kingbirds. This bird swooped at and successfully stole a Hyla regilla (just captured) from a Western Kingbird, and ate it. Oct.12 Monterey area: 1 - Crespi Pond Oct.13 Monterey area: 2 - Crespi Pond. Call a chatter or rattle: "chi-da-du" or "chiddle-di" - very different from call given by birds under same name in Amazon - as different as between any other species of Tyrannus.
