Western Kingbird
Tyrannus verticalis
Sep. 27 Monterey area, Monterey Co. Calif: 2 at Crespi Pond, unusual on coast.
Both these individuals were sallying down to marshy grass at the edge of the pond and capturing Hyla regila. At least four frogs were observed to be eaten in 10 minutes, first being battered against a fence before being swallowed. The frogs were not particularly small, being definitely at least as long as the bill; legs not included.
