Remsen, J.V. 1975 Lesser Prairie Chicken Tympanuchus pallidicinctus May 4 (cont) so in the air in front of each other, one right after another, but mostly consisting of sitting down face to face without inflated going into display postures and these quiet face-offs would often last 5-10 minutes. Usually at least two males were involved in such a quiet face-off at any one time. No females were seen to enter the lek. All but two birds flushed and flew away when a flap was opened on an observation tent, but they returned within 10 minutes and resumed displaying. Most activity subsided by about 0645 but this may have been due to their wariness of us. They all flew away with much flapping as soon as we went outside the car, which was parked right at the edge of the lek and within 50' of the nearest bird.
