Remsen, J.V. 1974 Black-tailed Gnatcatcher Polioptila melanura May 12 Eari, San Bernardino Co, Calif.: 2 June 17 Corn Spring, Riverside Co, Calif.: 4. Male was giving a call similar to scold of Bewick's Wren: "chbzz-chbzz-chbzz-chbzz-chdzz" - rapid series of 5-6 low buzzes. A ? or imm. was giving the single, very nasal, down-slurred "ngaaaa" which I normally associate with this species. Blue-gray notes are higher-pitched and have much more rocking-back-and-forth quality.
