Reimsen, J.V. 1974 Catbird Dumetella carolinensis Jan.5 Monterey Penin, Monterey Co, Calif: I at feeder at Fagan residence, Ocean Rd., Pebble Beach - present since Dec.30. We had to wait about 15 min. before it was spotted - remained well hidden for at least another 10 mins before coming to the feeder - it fed on the ground under the feeder, but did not remain very long. All field marks noted: black cap, black eye, black tail, chestnut vent - rest uniform gray. Silent. Thrush-like bill. See description sheet Jun.1 Deep Springs Ranch, Inyo Co, Calif: I spotted first by G. McCasklie - later seen well on ground by all, from as close as 25 feet - black cap, eye, tail; rusty undertail coverts, vent; rest solid gray. First found in top of cottonwood!
