Jan.18 Sacramento Av x Russell St, Berkeley, Alameda Co,
Calif: flock of 15+ making "long-distance"
flight across 50 yards of fast-moving cars
and pavement in a thinly-wooded section of
Berkeley. They seem to roam even the most
heavily urbanized areas of town.
Feb.4 301 Camino Pablo, Orinda, Contra Costa Co, Calif :
flocks have apparently broken up - I saw one
pair associating closely here today
Feb.18 San Luis NWR, Merced Co, Calif: 4! One pair building
nest 25' up in clump of mistletoe in a willow which
had not even begun to leaf out yet.
Feb.23 301 Camino Pablo, Orinda : pair building nest in Coast Live Oak
directly above driveway, about 10 feet from ground. Basic
outline of nest complete. Birds going in and out.
Mar.3 301 Camino Pablo: pair back at nest despite two previous
days of very heavy rain, including a hail storm that left the
area with a 1/2" deep layer of hail).
