Calif: At least 3♂♂ were displaying actively in a willow-Baccharis thicket up the hill 20 yds NE of the picnic tables under the Monterey Pines just e. of the Playing Field parking lot, Fantastic views. Display dive sounds like — impossible to describe — a loud metallic whine, much lower pitched than Selasphorus. They were very aggressive, chasing other hummingbirds, Bushtits, Song Sparrows, and Am. Goldfinches. One♂ was unsuccessful in budging an imm.♂ Selasphorus from a bush despite 5 minutes of bombardment and harassment. May 13 Arastre Creek, San Bernardino Co. Calif: 1♂ displaying plus 1♀.
