Remsen, J.V. 1974 Snowy Owl Nycteg scandigcq Jan.6 Pt Reyes Marin Co, Calif : North Beach - photo below [in the densest parts of the trees, however, after] about 15 minutes, they lost interest, and while I was still harassed and scolded by Solitary Vireos, Orange-crowned Warblers, and Oregon Juncos, it was not physically bothered. The Grosbeaks were actually seen to strike [illegible] out in flight. It finally came very close (40') and near the ground (10-20') and we got incredible views through the telescope. It was very excited by my imitations and called back, giving a whistled "hoot" at a seta, with intervals of 1-2 seconds. When it would fly in my direction, it would give a whistled challenge.
