Dec. 31 Sloan's Lake, Jefferson Co, Calif : 16. Eye-color in first-year bird is dark ; second-year pale but not as pale as adult - one second-yr bird had a dark eye. Leg color was the same in all three ages. First-yr. birds have dark-tipped bills and second-yr birds are intermediate between the dark-tipped first-yr and dark- ringed, pale-tipped adults - they are mostly dark-tipped but usually show some pale at the very tip of the bill,
