Remsen, J.V. 1974 Glaucoous-winged Gull Larus glaucescens Jan.5 Monterey Penin, Monterey Co., Calif: 35 Jan.25 Alameda South Shore, Alameda Co., Calif : 1 adult with a plastic canned-drink six-pack hoide stuck on its neck. It had apparently stuck its head through one of the six holes, gotten it over its head and around its neck, and was unable to remove it. The bird's mandibles were parted, as apparently the plastic collar was constricting its breathing. [drawing] - plastic Another adult was observed going through what was apparently a courting routine with an adult Western Gull; both birds faced each other and threw back their heads simultaneously, giving a loud series of calls in the process; then the head and bill were thrown forward and then back again.
