May 20, 1942 - Cedar Grove, S Fork Kings R., 4600 ft. Fresno calif.
Left Berkeley at 5 a.m., Mrs. Drinnell driving her car and with J. Crowley, F. Ogilvie, Mrs. Miller and 3 as passengers. Dr. Miller and Dr. Harvey Folkes followed in the truck. When we left Berkeley the weather was very clear nice. We followed highway 99 into Fresno and stopped in the Park for lunch. From Fresno we got on Highway 180 which took us directly into the park. By this time, the weather was very hot. We went first to the Park Headquarters, 7,000 ft. elevation. Here, the weather was so cool as to be almost cold, and some snow remained there. We stopped up here while Dr. Miller went to see the Superintendent & Mrs. Drinnell tended to our groceries. We observed some birds. Specifically, we noticed some chipmunks, a Western Screech-Owl, and saw also a Fox Sparrow there. Came down 64,600 at 5:30 p.m. Set traps after dinner.
