M. Redon/1942 Journal Cedar Grove & Lake Kings R. 4, 600 ft., Fresno Co., Calif. May 28, 1942 Arose a little after six. While breakfasting saw doe about 100 yrs. from breakfast table. Went off to set up our trap line. No one had anything but Mr. Davis. He had caught one Plo-may-powus. She and I returned together & observed a chickaree which was digging near a stone. He formed design around there two pop on the stone, "I will forget". This process was repeated several times until he tired me out & scattered. We saw the Robin on her nest still, and scared Water Owls door by the bridge. Later on She showed me the nest & under the bridge. Back at camp we packed trail lunch & proceeded (Grapelines Crowley, She, No May & I) up the Trail starting at about 10:10. We went to the Sheep Creek & constantly watched the Water Owls for a few minutes. Then, we proceeded up the Trail to the Callinpe nest where I left the others. I spent part of the a.m. hunting around for plants which might serve as hummerbird food but without success. I saw a Belted Eagle up there. She & I had lunch. The Lions came up & took a picture of the Bellarpe. At about 2:30 we left alone & spent the time until 4:15 watching the bird closely. She was feeding her young then, I discovered.
