May 25, 1942
Stayed on nest about 5 min. then flew
straight toward me (a few degrees E. of S.)
and swerved Eastward just then. Away a
Total of about 3 min. 30-20. When on nest,
squirly wgnre closo from side to side with
fairly even jirks, beak at angle of about
60° with horizontal. 9:07= sun not longe
directly on nest, leaves forming sort of screen.
Rups side to side movement up for at, about
jeras 3 secs. thought she might be
swatching for insects; if so, why does she
stop after a few secnds only just sit
still? Lift at 9:05 for a few minutes
to start my observation flowing again -
afraid I would become congealed other
spot.
It must be observed that the times given
on or off the nest are only approximate. I
had no stop watch & was using the minute hand
of a wristwatch. Times obtained were;

8:03-8:20 = 17
8:22-8:28= 6
8:20-8:38 = 8
8:42-8:54= 12
