Redox, 1942 Calliope Hummingbird E. Fork throp Creek, King Coupr., -ft. Island Co., early May 25, 1942 Stayed on nest about 5 min. then flew straight toward me (a few degrees E. of S.) and swerved Eastward just then. Away a Total of about 3 min. 30-20. When on nest, squirly wgnre closo from side to side with fairly even jirks, beak at angle of about 60° with horizontal. 9:07= sun not longe directly on nest, leaves forming sort of screen. Rups side to side movement up for at, about jeras 3 secs. thought she might be swatching for insects; if so, why does she stop after a few secnds only just sit still? Lift at 9:05 for a few minutes to start my observation flowing again - afraid I would become congealed other spot. It must be observed that the times given on or off the nest are only approximate. I had no stop watch & was using the minute hand of a wristwatch. Times obtained were; on nest - 7:35-7:50 = 15 7:51-8:00 = 9 8:03-8:20 = 17 8:22-8:28= 6 8:20-8:38 = 8 8:42-8:54= 12 8:56-9:01 = 5
