June 25 Santa Rosalia, Baja California
town (yesterday).
Slept near the beach about 1 mile north of
town last night. Heard and saw what was
very probably Eptesicus fuscus feeding over the
brush there.
Minimum temperature last night was 71° F.
June 26 Los Martires, 300+ ft, 23 mi by road N.W. San Ignacio, Baja Calif.
Arrived here about 5:00 PM after eating dinner
at San Ignacio (yesterday). The wind was blowing
steadily from the sea and a large fog bank was
visible at sunset. Shot bats at dusk and
obtained one Eptesicus fuscus and one Myotis
californicus. The two bats were seen flying
low among the brush and cardone, their flight
greatly affected by the wind.
A cement tank and a long cement watering
trough existed at this place and we attempted to
net a few bats after dark but were unsuccessful
possibly because of the strong wind that was
blowing. Several small bats were seen however.
Minimum temperature last night was 58°
it seeming quite cold in the evening and with
a heavy fog overcast on the desert until 9 this
morning. The wind blew steadily all night.
Los Martires is no more than a small house
with neighboring coral and watering trough
and a windmill. It is situated in the flat
