Quest 1948 Journal 68 May 18 Trinco, 1700 ft. Baja California Tevis caught three Newton's lepidus in Schuyler traps set along my trap line last night. Murray obtained one Caenidophorus tessellatus and a Diposaurus at noon today. Birds seen today included a Hooded Oriole, California Jay, Plainopepla, Western gratesated, Caracara, American Vulture, Quail?, and Eastern Wren. Tevis caught one Cettulus leucurus this afternoon. 8:45 P.M. Bats did not appear until 7 PM this evening. Both large and small species appeared at the same time. I shot the Eptesicus fuscus between 7 and 7:30 P.M. Shot a Poorwill at 7:30, mistaking it in the dark for a large bat. The sky was clear at sunset tonight possibly explaining the late appearance of the bats. Murray shot one Dasyptems ega and Dr. Benson a Pipistrellus hesperne and Eptesicus fuscus. Dr. Benson obtained one Myotis californicus from an abandoned mine S.W. of line this afternoon. The Poorwill (#212) was flying about 25 feet off the ground. Others were heard calling all evening.
