Quest 1948 Journal 67 May 17 Trinfr, 1700 ft, Baja California from a small pond further down the wash. Birds seen here: as large Hawks, Cardinal, Plumbeous Snatecalles, Cactus Wren, Quail and American Vultures. No American Ravens seen here so far. May 18 Same Location. Minimum temperature last night was 60°F; maximum this afternoon was 95°F. 47 live traps baited with bird seed and set inside same brush fence as described under May 17 caught 3♂ Perognathus spinatus (#200,201+ 208) and 4 females, and two Peromyscus cremicus ,♂♀(#206+207). The traps were set in almost the same location in the small field as those of the previous night, but netted the same number of Perognathus spinatus with Peromyscus cremicus being caught in addition instead of Perognathus baylei. Shot bats yesterday evening. I shot two Pipistrellus hesperus (#197,198) and one Eptesicus fuscus (#199). The others of the group obtained the same thing except Dr. Benson who shot a Lasionycta ega in addition to the two other species. The Pipistrellus appeared at 6:30 P.M., but the larger bats obtained were not seen until 7:00 P.M. Due to clouds in the west the sunset could not be timed in relation to the appearance of the Pipistrellus.
