Quart 1948 Journal 47 May 3 Mulege 25 ft Baja California, it's ones I have seen north of here. Elvis shot several of them for specimens. Black Phoebes are common around the artificial dam below the mission, three being seen. There are about a dozen Coots in the pond above the dam and a [illegible] woodpecker was heard in the vicinity. There are fish about 8 inches long in the water above the dam and smaller ones below. The pond below the mission is formed by a long cement and rock dam that is about fifteen feet high. Many tule grow in the water and it is bordered by low grass and many palm trees. The palm trees appear to extend about 2 miles up the canyon from the town proper. Water arises out of the ground below- the dam as is evidenced that by more water flowing 100 yards below the dam than nearer it. About five American Vultures roost on a large rock on the west end of town, 10:00 P.M. Noticed many large cockroaches in the latrine in back of the building so decided to spray them with an Aerosol bomb. They were thoroughly sprayed at 8:30 P.M. and immediately became greatly agitated, crawling over the seat, floor, walls and ceiling at a
