May 25 Russian Gulch State Park, Mendocino Co. California. Elevation 40 ft.
to the skin.
May 28 One large male trapped in lawn - clover, grass - across from ranger's house. Picked up at 7 A.M. Burrow
3 1/2 inches below ground and 3" diameter; follows
3 1/2 inches underground for 4 or 5 feet and starts
down. Young female trapped at 6 PM in surface
burrow about 10 yards from place where large &
cought. Possibly the same burrow system.
150 ft. Elevation
Immature female trapped in surface burrow in
meadow sloping (5°) to ocean - about 150 yards
from ocean. Ground damp and very loose &
full of decaying vegetation, roots, and old twigs
and limbs.
May 29. 40 ft Elevation
Large male trapped in run bruches down. Surface
burrow ran for 3 ft - 2" under, then dropped to
long run 6" down - 3 1/2" diameter. In meadow
west of camp - 15 yds from creek. Ground level,
very damp, used loose, and full of roots.
Grass cover dense - recently cut showing 5" growth.
