Salamptodon
june: Russian Creek State Park, Mendocino Co., California, elevation 275 ft.
Found lying in middle of path northeast of camp 27 in
Redwood, Douglas fir forest. Stream was about 20 ft.
distant and 10 ft lower. Ground here covered with
matting of dead redwood & Douglas fir leaves and twigs.
There was not much underbrush beside the path.
Forest floor covered for the most part with ferns.
About 10 steps farther along the path, we saw a large
garter snake scurrying for cover. The skin
injuries on the salamander suggested that perhaps
the garter snake had been attempting to eat the
Salamander.
