Journal. May26 Russian Gulch State Park, Mendocino Co, California; elevation 150 ft. Douglas fir about 10' from the ground. When driving to town saw ground squirrel scurry down road and over hill under bridge spanning the mouth of Russian Gulch. May28 The four of us went out at low tide - about 7:AM - to collect and observe invertebrate life. Collected traps on the way home. Few Borlaughs and I set gopher and museum special traps. Weather very warm, but slightly overcast for part of the day. We set four gopher traps in lucernus in meadow 100 yards from ocean. Meadow covered thickly where we set with Avena, other grasses (sp?) and blueberry; occasional clump of Baccharis, and Bishop pine along edge of cliff overlooking ocean.
