Patella 1943. June 26 /mi W Hyampon; 1200 ft, Trinity Co., Calif. within the june-fir-oak forest. The composition of the forest as regards species remained consistent along the slope; though locally there were shifts in the predominance of certain trees and shrubs. Took photographs of (1) edge of woodland showing grape thickets, Garry oak, ash, and digger pine; (2) thicket of willow and ash along north run of Hyampon flat, (3) open woodland of Garry oak and manzanita underbrush, and (4) view across Hyampon basin showing east end of South Fork Mtn. and southeastern slope of the basin. A thunder storm came up last night that lasted well into the early morning. There were protracted puls of thunder with light rain one soon followed by another, until the early morning when heavy local thunder was followed by a teen- pour, after which there was only occasional light rain. This storm broke the spell of cool weather; Today has been warm and bright -- hot in the direct sun. June 27 Returned via Hayfork, Peanut, and Calif Highway 36 to Red Bluff, thence southward to Berkeley.
