June 26 /mi W Hyampon; 1200 ft, Trinity Co., Calif.
within the june-fir-oak forest. The
composition of the forest as regards species
remained consistent along the slope;
though locally there were shifts in the
predominance of certain trees and shrubs.
Took photographs of (1) edge of
woodland showing grape thickets, Garry oak,
ash, and digger pine; (2) thicket of willow
and ash along north run of Hyampon flat,
(3) open woodland of Garry oak and
manzanita underbrush, and (4) view
across Hyampon basin showing east end
of South Fork Mtn. and southeastern
slope of the basin.
A thunder storm came up last
night that lasted well into the early
morning. There were protracted
puls of thunder with light rain
one soon followed by another,
until the early morning when heavy
local thunder was followed by a teen-
pour, after which there was only
occasional light rain. This storm
broke the spell of cool weather; Today
has been warm and bright -- hot in the direct
sun.
June 27 Returned via Hayfork, Peanut, and Calif Highway
36 to Red Bluff, thence southward to Berkeley.
