Oct. 16 El Batel, 70km. NE Mazatlán, 5100 ft., Sinaloa
One pair heard and/or seen flying
westward through the pass in the morning;
returning through the pass later in the day;
this occurred daily until this morning when
Russell collected the male of the pair on its
westward flight. Yesterday, in the late
afternoon after a light rain, a large flock of
40 or 50 was seen flying northward
along the ridge above our camp.
Oct. 18 A pair was observed perched a few inches
apart, atop a dead pine, on the east side
of the ridge above camp. They remained
here fully 15 minutes, squawking almost
continuously and periodically gorging
through some tending maneuvers which
I could not make out well because of
distance. Then they took wing and soared
several successive
in circles over the forest and against
the sheer cliffs of the east face of the
ridge.
