Peterson 1935 Peromyscus m. sonoriensis in its distribution & generally most numerous of all species. Only in 2 places were they conspicuously absent - one at 1 mi. N Winnemucca & the other at 4 mi. W Hallett. In all other places they generally outnumbered any one species caught. They are especially abundant & seem to prefer places of dense growth whether in open desert or in canyons. Also tend to be most plentiful in ditches, culverts, under bridges, fences - any place with material supplying shelter. Likewise do they, like wood rats, like to inhabit buildings. Nest of 2 adults + 5 young found between outer wall of lumber & inner wall of tar paper in a shed at Goose Creek. Tragedy struck the entire family - all were exterminated. Peromyscus very considerate about going into traps in such way as not to get skulls smashed.
