Pearson - 1996 25 Species Accounts Bamboo 29 October - see Journal for Cerro Otto bamboo report. 1 November - Went to La Veranada to see E3 and E2. The nières were almost fully leafed in some places, but right at the clumps they had barely started to leaf out. The dandelions were a riot at the Park Guard cabin at La Veranada. Clump E3 had 31 dead shoots, at least 20 of them parasitized; numerous yearling culms. A tuco tuco had made two mounds within the clump, but no obvious damage to the culms. Did not mark any because we forgot the marking pens. Clump E2 had 14 dead shoots, at least 9 of them attacked by parasites, none of them the spiralling kind, all or most were the vertical furrow kind. Frequently, the bottom part of the shoot was hard and green but the tip dead. Numerous yearling culms. 2 November - Clump B2 in Llao Lao forest had 11 dead shoots, at least 6 of them parasitized; 8 yearling culms, mostly quite skinny, 4 new shoots. We reinforced the numbers on some of the old culms. Several big coihues had fallen nearby but no damage to our clump.
