Enormous number of small brown Calidris (few
beetles) flying at dusk. Full moon. This
location now known as "ridge above Refugio
Navarrete, 15 km S SW S C de Bamborbo", 1600m.
This same locality last year we called 2000m,
Rec. 2 Refugio Navarrete. Morning sunny + calm. Traps
held more Charadrius, 1 Aukletropes, about 5
Charlongs, and 2 more Geotus.
Rec. 3 Peulla, Chile: left Bariles at 10 AM and went via
bus - foot - bus - foot - bus to Peulla and checked
into the hotel at 4 PM. Sunny and stormy,
beautiful views, especially Tramador from the Chilean
immigration stop. I was very impressed with how
fast the vegetation becomes "tropical" after entering
Chile. Also hot + tobacco, met Peter Mercer
of Hotel Peulla and put out traps. He put
museum specs up a canyon behind the hotel
and I put about 35 live traps up a side branch
to a spectacular waterfall. Cochine and Lacunas,
partly Conulesta and partly the big graceful quila.
Forest Chilean, park guard says there are 3 species
of lambar: Conulesta, quila, and the little one
called or trenuo. My line was 10 cage traps,
about 20 Shamonas, and 3 jump traps.
Lunta put 20 MS in grassy blackberry + wildnut
+ older
Sedge broom on edge of big meadow in front of hotel.
Evening calm, clear. I also set clewakers in marsh
before 7:30 PM.
