The lake level is a few meters higher, at least
6 or 7 chuquos in one area; thus quills stopped
to examine a piece of the water's edge where there
were Keithredon droppings and while looking around,
an Elyzodontis dashed out into the water, caught
them. Then noticed a frog-like form seeming
under water with simultaneous flake of the hind
feet. Caught it; an Amygoma. Later, about
6 ft. from the water's edge I saw a dry tree
mound; excavated it by hand and it promptly
filled with water. Then walked around to the other
side of the bush and a dry mouse scouted out of
the water-filled hole and escaped. I think it was
a big Elgures. Anita saw a suspicious refuge
and poked it with a shovel; a tree grunted at her,
catched it. It seemed to be in a shallow cave. Also
picked up a large snake Philodryas. Saw a pair
of Calif. Avalis. Also caught 1 small lizard. Only saw
about 3 hares. Once again disaffainted in the
abundance of mice, marsupials, and predators. There
will be no hilltops to serve as refugia.
Sunny, warm, not windy all day. At the base of a
tree part of the hunting pit Anita found remains of
2 Elyzodonta.
