may 13 Barlocks morning temp -5°c. all day shining. Christos photod the armadillo, Ictidor and Chalampas, Javier Calvo came by at 10pm and arranged to go traping on Cerro Otto tomorrow x. may 14 Partly sunny, but rain/snow briefly in PM, left at 10:30 (2 species) with botanist anbel aguayo with Calvo and 3 of his friends to take over the prospective study area on the SE slope of Cerro Otto slightly below the Comptua of Piedras Blancas. Set 3 steel traps for gopher and they set about 20 shrews in Cana/larga. One possible area is pure cana/laga with almost nothing else, bare leafy ground; the other is more open with some laurel, Berberis perezii etc. a pollodor was swaling a big larga log down the path with a team of oxen. Found a dead Gefer in the trail, shrew-like. The trees in the woods have been logging more actively than they were 2 weeks ago. The larger have pretty much lost their colors. Home 3 p.m., time and sight ised gallopas! may 16 Up Cerro Otto at 8:30. New snow in every direction beginning dont 1/2 way up the road, about 4 miles at Piedras Blancas as well as in the Zega/cana forest where the traps were. Barlocks drenching with snow. Found all 20 traps (4 live skunks longifolis). Saw 1 flock of small jurnbirds in the traptres. Fast walk, and bare tracks, 3 times in 3 steel traps at Piedras Blancas, at 6pm put about 35 ms in open helts at
