Species account Toad. March 16, 1973 Toad rock - Chilly place 7:40 saw no toads waiting about so looked under 1 foot rock under which 2 toads were yesterday. One 1" black toad there today. Sunny, some clouds. 8:29 AM. Partly cloudy, TA = 7.5°C. 8:50 - ambient 8.5° - black toad sitting at back entrance. (crawling looking out of faecet/ellipse just now) (see leg 1 sticking out hole.) 9:20 leg 1 emerging - sits half out of hole, in sun) leg 2 - head out (hole on shady side of rock) 9:25 leg 1 - climbs on rock - very dark. 9:30 leg 1 - still dark, one male leg 2 - as above. 9:35 leg 1 - lighter leg 2 - as above. 9:40 leg 1 - pushes up - at whom? 9:42 leg 1 - runs fast 20 feet; ? in hole there 9:45 leg 2 - on top of rock now. 9:50 toad out N entrance, tries to climb bank, falls down, goes back in hole.
