Peaker 1982 478 Geocapra pecus May 6 Patches of the Engaged Sanctuary near Jochin Hein are riddled with their burrow and runways, lots of open holes, dropping, new cuttings, no big earth mounds but some a quid or more, but mainly the species bird + Geacra's is trampled down into a runway. Osger's description of the various in good. Also many burrows on the hill of the cleared homestead, together with Stenocapra burrows. Geocapra, with its runways, obviously is more secretive or more ground-squirrel than Stenocapra. We caught some during the day. Also caught one on sandy rock/pillin and cana at the edge of Jochin Hein; Stenocapra about 25 yrs away. Sage also reported a steep hillside of Geocapra riddled with tunnels and runways. Captures chuckled and gave quina-quina squeaks. They ate apple, carrot, dandelion leaves stems, green grass, cliver, bamboo stems, amaway roots, When I first saw these they looked much smaller than those from Roca Malei, less rufous tail skimmer. When compared with a skin from Roca Malei, these differences are obvious, especially the bright rufous- orange-tawny belly of Roca Malei, and paler, more hindered tail, bigger feet of Roca Malei.
