Overcast, morning temp. 7°. At 4 pm put traps at Jones ranch at the outlet of Jolo river H traps. There is about a hectare of small-medium-sized cumps of pamfa grass (cortadera), the only cortadera that I know about near here. They are in a weedy/ grassy field cump on the shore of the lake with scattered berberis, callita, rutilaria, and rosa mosqueta in fruit. I put out about 40 museum specimen, all in cortadera clumps. Anita put about 3° in bushy/desertly isolated. april 17 morning warm 11° drifty. Ran traps at 8:30 a.m. my cortadera line held 8 also longi, 11 Oryz, 1 anisocamp, and 4 also pantbo. Anita had 10 also longi, 8 Oryz, 2 anise, and 1 also panthos. Note that this area is in the "empty quarter" north of the lake and west of Rio Secoy. Stopped at the Jones house, where Sr. Jesse was having breakfast (note on the next story). It is the house where Don Diego Neil was born in 1900. Jesse's father and Neil's father were partners. Brought in supplies from Rucadiv and Mudrya in carts drawn by mule. 2-3 months each way. When they needed something quickly, they used pack mules to Ororo. He says there were horse and cattle in 1900 but no sheep til much later. They used to raise potatoes, oats,
