very few have any larvae forming, in fact the other species
of Barlerin (crossed out) on the grid have almost no larvae either, although
down around camp Darwini has appreciable larva on some
plants. As me run the grid I watched for grass - saw not one
spring blade. Lots of old blue-blues on the road & presumably in the forest.
Dec 8
Stopped raining in middle of night. Stare out at 2:30 a.m.
Morning no rain, half sun half clouds. Looked at grid at 7 a.m.
One new also longi and old longi.
The grove of trees in the campground consists of all 3 species
of Metlophagus, Bamboo under all, except the campground
and road, Expected >1 white grub per ft^2 near bamboo. In a
further hunt, found a big white-grub under a Barberis diversifolia
>15 ft from a small clump of small bamboo. Also found one
under bamboo about 20 ft from the nearest Metlophagus (a
smallish one). None near a Barberis clumps far from
bamboo and Metlophagus. A later effort confirmed grubs near
Barberis but no bamboo nearby (but big colchus 25 ft away).
At 6 p.m. put out 20 big shernacae in dense habitat,
mostly along logs, all baited with big white-grubs.
Also 20 museum species baited with cornmeal,
Anta/put out about 30 museum species around camp and
along road in bamboo etc.
Dec 9
Night partly clear, no rain. 12 noon, my 20 shernacae
baited with grubs caught 5 also longi, my 20 museum
species caught 2 Vitis rodrin and 1 Vitis more, these in
the densest part of the line. Anta caught a q Drowscofs with
1 young, plus 2 or 3 also olive and 4 also longi.
