The grid: situated on the north side of the Rio Castaño Overo about 200 ft elevation higher than the marked but bridge at the end of the road from Panpá Surda. It is about 100 m along the second zag of the jeep road going up the slope, directly across from a large ceiba on the left side of the road. This tree is 27 ft around at least height band has asymmetrical branching pattern. The forest consists of fig (2-5') Ceiba and langa with numerous seedlings or saplings up to 2" but very few intermediates, The langa have lost at least half their leaves. The understory consists of barberos and Berberis. The barberos and the B. luscifolia grow to 12 feet, but it is much more open than the forest to Panpá Surda. The liana flora is completely lacking here, no. substitute. In fact, ceiba and langa are the only trees within the grid.
