On the same diagonal, a board was erected 4m from the stake. The board was divided into 3 "altitude": 1/2 m, 1 m, and 1.8 m. Sightting at the board from the stake at respectively 1/4m eye level, 3/4 m, and 1 1/2 m, the percent of each board section observed by vegetation was estimated. Within the hoop the % of ground covered by vegetation was estimated, broken down into the dominant three species plus a total coverage. Finally, the number of hideyholes within 2.2m of the stake were counted. A hideyhole is a dark safe retreat where a mouse could not be reached by people or pets.
