On the same diagonal, a board was erected
4m from the stake. The board was
divided into 3 "altitude":
1/2 m, 1 m, and 1.8 m. Sightting
at the board from the stake at
respectively 1/4m eye level, 3/4 m,
and 1 1/2 m, the percent of each board section observed by vegetation
was estimated. Within the hoop the % of ground covered by
vegetation was estimated, broken down into the dominant
three species plus a total coverage. Finally, the number of
hideyholes within 2.2m of the stake were counted. A
hideyhole is a dark safe retreat where a mouse could
not be reached by people or pets.
Jacklighting saw about hunting at 8:15, temp 48°
Flower looked about like Antrozous. Coral thought she heard
one last night. No hawks or owls yet.
Just before "sunset" saw a small brown unstriped lizard a few
feet off of the study area. Maybe Scelarus attenuor but no stripe
visible, in dead brush pile.
Sept 20 Night calm + clear. Minimum . It card howled over. Wind
blow ups the valley in daytime, down at night. Anita bed about
68 snap traps out and caught 1 merona, (Blompe berlpzelin,
and 11 Phylotines. Yesterday surely a mygster, today maybe 1,
and a gwenik with small ears. The morona was in a
particularly brushy part of the dry marsh about a half
km. Below the study area a shallow ditch has been dug
and contains 10 or 20 gallons of water.
